Help with english, i'm portuguese :s?

After making his first pair of shoes at age nine, for his sisters to wear at their confirmation (history of salvatore ferragamo - wikipedia)

what is a confirmation?|||From the Simple English Wikipedia:

"In Christianity, a baby might be baptised when they were young. When that baby grows to an adult, confirmation is used to make sure that the adult agrees with the promise to be a Christian, made when they were baptised. Usually in an Anglican church, people can only take their first Holy Communion if they do the confirmation before."

Confirmation isn't just for "adults." In the Catholic church children also undergo confirmation when they are old enough.|||In this case I believe the word Confirmation refers to the sacrament received in the Catholic Religion in which a member of the Church accepts the Catholic religion as wholly true and devotes his loyalty to it and receives the Holy Spirit. This can be a very formal event and that is why the shoes may be important to the person.|||Confirmation is "confirma莽ao", one of the sacraments of the Catholic Church.|||When you get confirmed or dedicated to your church, a service in which they accept you into the church :)
